mis on infotöö eesmärk?

Siin enda uurimuse jaoks kirjandust lugedes, jõudsin ühe äratundva sõnastuseni, mistõttu mõtlesin selle siiagi kirja panna:

"A central part of this vision includes the idea that the social mission and public purpose of the information profession is to be realized through the skills and knowledge of individual practitioners working in both public and private settings, and where these practitioners are identified as strategic partners in the development of information service and policy rather than as custodians of a library defined as a particular place or collection. The goal of the information profession should be to deliver information where and when it is needed, rather than to rely on an institution whose fate is uncertain."

Veendumus, mis mul tudengina juba tekkis ja millest ma oma igapäevatöös ja tegemistes ikka lähtunud olen. NB Tegemist ei ole vastandusega info ja raamatukogu vahel, pigem natuke laiema vaatega tervikule :) Sõnastus pärineb Douglas Raberilt raamatust "Librarianship and Legitimacy: The Ideology of the Public Library Inquiry" (1997, lk. 2).
